National Dog Day is Saturday, August 26th. The U.S. military has about 2,500 active Military Working Dogs (MWDs) today, with 700 or so deployed at any one time. These intelligent canines go through rigorous training. They’re trained to attack, track, and detect bombs, gases, weapons and drugs. Angels on the Soldiers' Angels Deployed Adoptions Team can sign-up to adopt a service member who has a K-9. Currently, we have 13 troops registered who have K-9s. Here are a few of them.

Memorial Day 2018 will mark the 7th annual brewing of a very special beer that helps our men and women in uniform: Homefront IPA. The Hops for Heroes project was started in 2011 when soon-to-be brewery owner and major league pitcher Chris Ray approached Matt Lincecum from Fremont Brewing about brewing a beer for charity. Learn more about this program and the participating craft breweries.

In 2008 on the 100th Anniversary of Mother's Day, Soldiers' Angels founder, Patti Patton-Bader received the surprise of a lifetime— she won the title of America's Favorite Mom, a contest created by Teleflora and NBC. With awards, television appearances, and more, Patti was honored not only for her title of "mom" to her family, but also the work that she did for service members around the world by creating Soldiers' Angels. Although it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, surprisingly, that is not Patti's favorite Mother's Day memory— but this was...
Employees from two different locations collected socks for the Soldiers’ Angels Warm Feet for Warriors sock drive. Their Arkansas location collected 410 pairs and their Atlanta location collected 593 pairs—a total of 1,003 pairs of socks that will be handed out to veteran patients in VA hospitals across the country and shipped to deployed service members around the world!
One of the unique ways our volunteers give back to veterans is to perform patient visits at VA Hospitals around the country. Whenever we have blankets to give, the volunteers will present a blanket to the patient during that visit. Hospitals can be cold and your own special blanket helps make the stay a little bit better. We also like to send blankets to the deployed service members we support. Although they may not need the blanket for warmth like the veteran patients, the blanket does provide comfort. Simple reminders of home, like blankets, are often what help service members make it through long, hard deployments. Although we accept donations of blankets at any time during the year, we are currently running our Annual Blanket Drive from now through August 31st. Learn more here and help us provide warmth and comfort to our veterans and deployed.
Thanks to Girl Scouts from across the country, we have over 35,000 boxes of delicious Girl Scout cookies ready and waiting to be shipped to deployed service members... but we need your help to ship them out as soon as possible before the summer heat sets in. No one likes melted cookies!
$18 will get 10 boxes of cookies to our troops!
Starting your own business may seem like a challenge— but if you're a veteran living with mental health struggles such as depression, anxiety, or PTSD, the low-stress option of running your own gig-based business may be an option worth exploring. With additional flexibility, control over how much or how little you work, and an increase in tax-deductions, more and more people are creating their own opportunities by running gig-based businesses. In our recent blog, guest blogger Jenny Wise details some reasons why gig-based businesses may just be a great fit for veterans.
The count is in!! We are very excited to announce that we have exceeded our Warm Feet for Warriors goal of collecting 8,000 pairs of socks for troops and veterans!! Thanks to all of you, we collected 10,348 pairs of socks & COUNTING!!! The boxes continue to flood in this week and we couldn't be more grateful for all of the amazing support! If you just ended your collection drive or are in the process of sending in your socks, don't worry-- we will update the count later in the month. We know there were many drives that ended in the last few days and we absolutely want your collections to be counted towards our drive. The FINAL count will be determined on May 18-- so just have your socks here before that day. Thank you all!

We would love to tell you about all 12,000--- but since that may be tough, we are featuring just a few of the volunteers who logged the most volunteer hours in 2017. Click here to read Part 2 of our Volunteer Week blog, Volunteering Their Hearts Out [Part 2].
This week is National Volunteer Week - a week for recognizing the efforts of those who give their time and talents for the greater good. Volunteers are the salt of the earth. They understand what it means to give back to the community, they are passionate about the causes they serve, and so giving of their time. We are honored to have over 12,000 registered volunteers across the country who are passionate about supporting our Nation’s troops, veterans, and military families. We wanted to personally honor and recognize each and every one of our volunteers in a blog, but, well... that would be a really long blog! Instead, we are highlighting just a few of the volunteers who logged the most volunteer hours on their particular team in 2017. Learn more about these amazing volunteers and why they love doing what they do.
