Hops for Heroes was created in 2011 by former MLB pitcher, Chris Ray, to show support for our troops. Through this unique initiative, craft breweries across the country team up to create a special brew in honor of our military: Homefront IPA.
This IPA does more than just quench your thirst, it improves the lives of our service members and veterans. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of Homefront IPA will benefit Soldiers' Angels.
For the past four years, Homefront IPA has benefited Soldiers' Angels, an organization whose mission is to ensure that "No soldier goes unloved." Soldiers' Angels provides aid and comfort to the men and women of the United States Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, their families, wounded heroes, and a growing veteran population.
Thousands of Soldiers' Angels "Angel" volunteers assist veterans, wounded, deployed personnel, and their families in a variety of unique and effective ways. To date, Soldiers' Angels volunteers have sent hundreds of thousands of care packages and millions of letters and cards to "adopted" deployed service members; they have supplied the wounded with over 25,000 First Response Backpacks directly at the Combat Support Hospitals in Iraq and Afghanistan and the major military hospital in Germany, as well as provided care and comfort to those in stateside military and VA facilities. They also provide voice-controlled/adaptive laptops to wounded service members, as well as other technology that supports rehabilitation.

Rochester Mills Beer Co. - Auburn Hills, Michigan - May 18, 2019 - Homefront IPA release party with a special commemorative glass and an opening ceremony featuring the Lake Orion VFW Color Guard.
Chris Ray was living the dream and doing what he loved- playing Major League baseball, pitching for the Seattle Mariners. Chris also had another love for his country, our service members, and veterans. In July 2011, Chris used his name and notoriety to bring the two together by joining forces with Fremont Brewing Company to release a limited edition craft beer in which 100% of the proceeds would benefit military and veteran charities. Named "Homefront IPA," it was sold at Safeco Field, Fremont Brewing Company, and various retail stores in the Seattle area.
Homefront IPA was created with one goal in mind: to honor and support the men and women of America's Armed Forces. A special brew aged on maple bats to add flavor and support America's favorite pastime, Homefront IPA is now a favorite beer at Memorial Day. The campaign was later named Hops for Heroes.
After a significant injury ended his baseball career, Chris, and his brother Phil opened their own brewery, Center of the Universe Brewing Company in Virginia. The Ray brothers continued the Homefront IPA tradition, turning Hops for Heroes into a national campaign, with craft breweries participating from across the country.
Because of our national footprint and the work we do for service members and veterans, Soldiers' Angels has the ability to create a wide variety of engagement opportunities that will be unique and rewarding for craft breweries of any size, in any state.
